Game of Thrones 2.6 “The Old Gods and the New” Review

The title of this episode of the show was ‘The Old Gods and the New’. And it was another epic delivery. The writers of ‘Game of Thrones’ have their jobs cut out for them as they have to cover so many characters that there are times it looks as if there is no time to really dwell on any one long enough to develop any story.

But this episode really moved things forward with action and high drama all through. It started with the King who showed that his position was such that he should always be way ahead of others when it comes to outplaying and out foxing them. And this showed itself when he foresaw what was about to happen and got the kids out to safety. But he was late when it had to do with Sansa as they had already found and descended on his soon to be queen.

Her clothes were ripped from her body and this happens to be the second time in as little as three episodes. Tyrion in the first occasion berated the king but this time he did even worse yet his head was still on his shoulders!

King Joffrey is reading the handwriting on the wall because things are adding up. The peasants are restless, he almost lost his life and there are now people who can speak up to him it would be a shock if he does not see the signs that he may be loosing grip over the reigns of power.

As for Theon, he did what he was advised to do and took a bigger fortress in Winterfall to show his prowess. But he had no intention of having Rodrik beheaded but it seemed as if his hands were forced when the noble Lord spat on his face. He now seems to be at a loss like he did not know that every action would have its consequence. He wants to prove something to his father, but he has got to be ready to man up or back down if he can’t.

And the beheading was graphically shocking. And it underscored that there was something unstable at work in Theon in his quest to prove his mettle to his dad. He could become something worse and even forget about proving anything to his father.

Daenerys’ dragons are not with her and this raises a lot of issues for her. She needs them as they hold the key to an assured future for her. Getting them back would be interesting to watch. This was an epic installment of the show.
